Experience: Durwood is President and Founder of M. Durwood Stephenson & Associates, Inc. and sets the example of professionalism for the company. "We build a quality building, on time, and within budget." Stephenson attended North Carolina State University and studied Economics. He later studied law at LaSalle University. An innovator in the profession, Stephenson began as a homebuilder in 1973 and has pioneered development in elderly care facilities. Under Stephenson's leadership, the firm has evolved into a regional general contractor and developer specializing in design-build commercial construction, with a reputation for integrity, fairness and sound business dealings.

Stephenson is a well known community leader serving the State in a number of volunteer positions to improve the lives of the citizens of North Carolina. Durwood was chosen as Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year 2000. He and his wife, Vickie, founded a non-profit corporation in 1989 to assist at-risk children. Stephenson maintains personal involvement in each project by establishing customer relationships, reviewing proposals, budgets, estimates and frequently visiting job sites. He has been a licensed Realtor since 1970 and a licensed General Contractor since 1973. Stephenson served as a Member of the North Carolina Board of Transportation, the N.C. Banking Commission, and on the Executive Committee of the N.C. Global Transpark Trustee Board.  He recently chaired the Capital Campaign for Johnston Health, raising over $4 million to provide a Hospice Faciltiy for the citizens of Johnston County.

Experience: A graduate of Bob Jones University, Vickie has been associated with the firm since its inception in 1973 and has served in a number of capacities. Until 1997, she served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Corporation and was primarily responsible for personnel policies and procedures.

As Corporate President and Company Founder, M. Durwood Stephenson became more occupied with community service and volunteer projects in recent years. Vickie took the title of Corporate CEO and assumed responsibilities for financial records and accounting functions while supervising daily operational functions. As the primary stockholder, our firm is a registered WBE qualifying for minority owned enterprise.

Experience: Karen graduated from Johnston Community College in August 1999, with an Associates Degree in Office Systems Technology. The computer classes completed are Introduction to Computers, Microsoft Word, Advanced Word, Word Processing, Power Point, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Machine Transcription I and II. Karen performs as receptionist for the company, secretary to the President, assists the Corporate Secretary, and provides support for the Construction Superintendents. Her knowledge of computer operations has allowed our firm to convert to modern construction services utilizing CAD and other construction specialty technology. She supervises all office activities and co-ordinates special needs for all field personnel.

Experience: Jimmy began his construction career in 1976 with a commercial firm involved in institutional, industrial, and commercial building. For over 17 years he has concentrated on construction of financial institutions; being involved in every aspect of building from materials procurement, to the negotiating and bidding process to on-site administration. He has had the privilege of supervising over twenty new banking facilities to include both building and site development in North Carolina and South Carolina. Jimmy currently holds a North Carolina General Contractors Building License and North Carolina Real Estate Brokers License. Most recently he has been involved in the design build of medical, retail, municipal and office buildings including project management of several private developments. Jimmy has extensive experience in pre-engineered metal buildings and over 39 years experience in the construction industry

Experience: Glenn L. Loo a resident of Fuquay-Varina joined Stephenson General Contractors in October, 2013 as Project Superintendent. Mr. Loo, a graduate of City College of New York with Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree and a MBA in Finance Management from Farleigh Dickinson University has nearly 28 years of construction experience. M. Durwood Stephenson, President of Stephenson General Contractors said, "We are fortunate to have Glenn on our team. He has the knowledge, experience and integrity to assist our clients as we continue to serve the community." Stephenson General Contractors has been active in the construction industry for more than 42 years with many signature projects in Johnston, Wake and surrounding counties.

Mr. Loo and wife Nancy continue to reside in Fuquay-Varina. They have 2 sons, Michael and Jon.
 

Experience: Jason Free of Clayton has joined the staff of Stephenson General Contractors of Smithfield as Construction Manager Trainee.  Jason was a representative for Nationwide Insurance Company for 15 years.  Most recently he served as consultant and special projects Director for the Property Management Division of Stephenson General Contractors.  M. Durwood Stephenson, President of Stephenson General Contractors announced the transfer of Jason from the Property Management Division to the Design-Build Construction Division.  Jason served our Property Management with distinction and achievement.  He is a quick learner with a good basic knowledge of construction and will in a short time become a top quality performer in our Design-Build Construction Division.  Stephenson General Contractors has been a leader in the construction industry for more than 42 years.  Jason and wife Karen and daughter Kaitlyn, natives of Johnston County reside in rural Clayton.
